In 1970, the Ministry of light industry established the Science and Technology Information Station of Fermentation Industries, based on the Scientific Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries. The first academic journal of China's food industry, Science and Technology Information, was published. In 1972, the information station was renamed as the Science and Technology Information Station of Food and Fermentation Industries. In 1978, it was renamed as the China Science and Technology Information Station of Food and Fermentation Industries. In 1996, according to the light Zongxi [1996] No. 11 document of the China Light Industry Association, the information station was renamed as China Information Center of Food and Fermentation Industries (FFIC), becoming one of the 33 national light industry information centers under the China Light Industry Information Center. The affiliated unit is China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries.

FFIC is an information organization serving all the fields of food and fermentation industries. With the purpose of serving scientific and technological innovation and industrial production, FFIC strives to build a national information exchange platform, focusing on big data research, industry ranking, academic journal publication, industrial conference, information and news release, new technology, new achievements, new product promotion and application. FFIC provides information consultation, conference training, technical exchange, industrial analysis, science publicity and other value added services for enterprises and institutions related to food and fermentation industries.

China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries (formerly the Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries of the Ministry of light industry) published the first scientific journal in the field of food and fermentation in China, Science and Technology Information (internal exchange journal) in 1970. In 1975, it was renamed Food and Fermentation Industries (F&FI) and began to be published at home and abroad.

F&FI is a semimonthly scientific and technological journal publishes in China and abroad on 15th and 25th every month, which represents the academic level of China's modern food and fermentation industries. F&FI publishes research reports on raw and auxiliary materials, technology, packaging, machinery, detection, safety, circulation, comprehensive utilization, etc., as well as review articles on the development trends of food and fermentation technology and industrial innovation at home and abroad. Readers are engaged in production, scientific research, design and management. As the first academic journal in food industry in China, it is deeply loved by scientists.

F&FI is the only Q1 academic journal of "Food Science and Technology" discipline in China under the "World Journal Clot Index" (WJCI). It is also core journal in Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), the Chinese core journal, and the core journal of Chinese science and technology. Moreover, F&FI has been included in CNKI, VIP, CSCD and Wanfang Journal Database, and also been included in Scopus, CA, FSTA, CAB Abstracts and JST. The journal has successively won the third prize of the Ministry of Light Industry for scientific and technological progress, the first prize of the excellent scientific and technological journals of the light industry system, the National Journal Award for 100 key journals, the Chinese Journal Matrix, and 100 Chinese outstanding academic journals. It has established exchange relations with relevant publications in Japan, South Korea and Europe, and has become a publication with certain international status in China.

The above work has provided important bases for relevant national authorities to formulate industrial development plans, determine scientific and technological breakthroughs and introduction, provide industrial management and decision-making, and also provide useful references for scientific and technological workers and managers to improve their business levels.

Introduction: F&FI is the first academic journal in food industry in China, oriented at the cross discipline of food and fermentation, reports the latest scientific and technological innovation achievements, discipline frontier trends, industrial development status and trends, and leads the industrial technological progress, representing the leading academic level of the food industry in China.

During the "13th Five Year Plan" period, more than 800 papers related to the National Key R&D Plan and National Natural Science Foundation of China Food Program, as well as more than 270 papers of National Key Laboratories were published by F&FI. Introduction: Since 2004, Chinese and Foreign Food Industry has taken the lead in exploring foreign copyright cooperation in domestic journals and magazines. With the approval of the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People's Republic of China, it has carried out copyright cooperation with Betty's Boss, a magazine of Swiss Jung Publishing Group, and published the Chinese version of Betty's Kitchen. It has become the first and largest magazine of household cooking and food fashion life in China, with  single issue circulation of nearly 500,000. In 2021, it transformed into an academic journal in the food industry.
